Pathzero expands global platform to capture location data for physical risk management across private markets

Sydney, 14 October 2025: Pathzero, the leading platform for climate risk data in private markets, has announced the launch of a new capability that allows investors to collect location-level data on the operations and assets within their portfolios – laying the foundation for comprehensive physical risk management across global private markets.

Private markets are notoriously opaque, meaning it has been almost impossible for asset owners to get the key information required to run risk assessments. This new functionality enables institutional investors to identify where key portfolio companies and infrastructure assets are situated and how they are constructed.

By connecting to more than 550 fund managers worldwide, Pathzero has enhanced its award-winning data network to unlock a scalable way for asset owners to obtain the critical data they need to assess and manage physical climate risk.

“Moving from emissions data to physical risk data is a natural progression,” said Carl Prins, co-founder and CEO of Pathzero. “Both rely on the same network of fund managers and the same philosophy – start with high-level analysis to identify where the risks might be, then use real, detailed data to manage those risks effectively. Without this lever, investors can only know that a risk exists. With it, they can collaborate across the investment chain to take practical steps to manage it.”

From emissions to physical risk data

Pathzero is already recognised as the leading infrastructure for financed-emissions disclosure in private markets, enabling investors and fund managers to exchange high-quality emissions data through a secure, permissioned network. Extending this framework to physical risk data is a logical next step, supporting a more complete view of climate-related risks and opportunities.

By capturing accurate location data and linking it to ownership structures within portfolios, asset owners can now prepare to integrate physical risk assessments – using hazard information such as the National Climate Risk Assessment (NCRA) or other relevant datasets – without the data-gathering burden that has traditionally limited analysis in the $14.5 trillion global private markets.

Enabling engagement across the investment chain

The new capability is already being adopted by two major Australian super funds who are using Pathzero’s platform to engage with fund managers and portfolio companies to build a more complete view of physical exposure within their current campaigns.

For asset owners, this approach transforms how risk information flows through the investment chain:

  • Asset owners can identify where location data is missing and sponsor its collection.

  • Fund managers can work with underlying entities to supply data efficiently.

  • Portfolio companies gain a clear understanding of the information expected for future climate disclosures under AASB/ISSB (IFRS S2).

“As with emissions, our philosophy is risk-based,” Prins said. “We start broad and help investors target effort where it matters most. Obtaining location data is the key that unlocks meaningful physical risk management later.”

A spotlight at IGCC 2025

Physical risk and adaptation will be a major focus at this year’s Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) Conference in Sydney, where Pathzero will showcase how investors can leverage its network to prepare for the next phase of climate-risk disclosure, assessment, and management.

“Asset owners need practical tools that work across complex, multi-layered portfolios,” Prins said. “This capability makes it possible to collect critical information at scale – giving investors a clear path toward credible, collaborative physical risk management.”
